Our Story

KERE was born from a desire to truly understand textured hair and melanin-rich skin, not just treat them.

Our founder, Brenda, grew up across Kenya, Uganda, and South Africa, where African botanicals and traditional beauty rituals were a natural part of everyday life.

When she moved to Canada, everything changed. Different seasons, unfamiliar water, and a new environment brought unexpected challenges. Her hair became increasingly dry and fragile, eventually leading her to cut it all off. Her skin changed too, and the products available didn't seem to address what she was experiencing.

But Brenda wasn't content with simply finding another product. She wanted to understand why her hair and skin were changing, what they needed, and how science could help.

With a background in Business Analysis (BA), Brenda was already trained to investigate complex problems, challenge assumptions, identify root causes, and develop solutions. She brought that same analytical mindset to beauty.

Determined to bridge the gap between personal experience and scientific understanding, she pursued formal training in cosmetic formulation, complementing her business analysis expertise and MBA education at Wilfrid Laurier University.

What began as a personal challenge evolved into a bigger question:

What do textured hair and melanin-rich skin actually need to thrive, regardless of environment, lifestyle, or changing conditions?

That question became KERE.

Created in Canada and inspired by African botanical heritage, KERE combines modern cosmetic science, analytical thinking, and purposeful formulation to develop high-performance haircare and skincare.

We don't select ingredients simply because they're trending or because they have an appealing story. We investigate what they do, how they work together, and how they can address real needs.
